Leadership

The future of North Carolina's skilled nursing homes demands strong individuals to lead the way. A leader must be able to envision the future of long-term nursing care, impart that vision to others and guide them to success.

Our goal is to create an environment where the best and brightest individuals seek out a career in the long-term nursing care field. We know that top-notch professionals look for organizations that support collaborating teams, empowering staff, and sharing tools and resources. Our current leaders are helping to provide the structure for that type of work environment.

As part of our Journey to National Best initiative, NCHCFA is sponsoring an effort to cultivate the vision and leadership to guide North Carolina's nursing care facilities into the future. Already under way with our current leaders, our efforts include:

  • Professional development and mentoring programs for nursing home administrators
  • Modernizing the requirements for licensing of Nursing Home Administrators (NHA)
  • Peer Review Meritorious Performer Program - A performance reward program focused on strengthening staff empowerment
  • Nursing Leadership Certification from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • Maximizing the use of distance learning opportunities for professional and paraprofessional staff. One program underway in cooperation with East Carolina University will enhance efforts to recruit traditional and non traditional students to certification programs and degree programs with and emphasis on long term care. We expect more educational opportunities will be made available as the field grows to meet the needs.
