NC NOVA -- NC New Organizational Vision Award

NC NOVA is a voluntary special license awarded by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation to nursing facilities, adult care homes and home care agencies that meet higher standards for workplace culture. Raising the bar in long-term care, NC NOVA is the first program in the nation to reward providers who invest in building a high-quality workforce.

As part of a nationwide effort, NC NOVA aims to reduce high vacancy and turnover rates in direct care workers. One of 13 Better Jobs Better Care demonstration projects, NC NOVA was created under a $1.2 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Atlantic Philanthropies to the NC Foundation for Advanced Health Programs. The NC General Assembly adopted the program in July 2006.

The program recognizes long-term care providers who actively support and empower their direct care workforce in four areas:

  • Supportive workplaces
  • Balanced workloads
  • Training
  • Career development

Outlining the criteria, evidence and outcomes in these areas, NC NOVA has created uniform guidelines across all long-term care settings.
